Drum Roll Please..........

All of you out there are probably wondering if the baby is an Ethan or a Sadie. My son Caleb was convinced it was a girl, so I took him with me to the ultra sound. He was very excited to see the baby on the T.V. The entire time they were doing the ultra sound he was saying "Baby a girr" over and over again. He was right! IT'S A Girl!!!!!!!

Pink it is:):)

Shearing Time

The time had come. Everyone, including Molly, had a mop. A long, unkempt, notty mop. This time was different, however. We decided to do the shearing ourselves. We pulled out the clippers and the scissors and the tall chair. Then we prepared the restraining seat.

Dawson only needed a few snips, but he was certain to be the least cooperative. We asked Caleb if he wanted a haircut and he said, "Baby's turn." So Dawson went first. He squirmed and wiggled and fussed and turned red in the face, but I held him tightly. Sarah got her few well placed snips in. Some weren't so well placed because holding him still was no small job. Shortly he was done. He does everything shortly. Since she hadn't cut any hair in a while, Sarah was nervous and thought she ruined him, but he looks adorable. Good Job Sarah. Dawson was off with his bag of fruit snacks and a fresh haircut.

Next we geared up for Noah. He usually gets really upset and fights with all his might, but not today. He was extremely coopertive. Since he gets the full head clipper job, out came the clippers. Poor Noah was a little nervous when Sarah turned them on, but he leaned on Daddy and held my hand tightly. We told him, "Good Job Noah," which he repeated over and over. After some dancing around to satisfy both Sarah's need to have access to Noah's head and Noah's need to lean on Daddy, he was finished. He left with his bag of fruit snacks happy, and perhaps a little shaken from his ordeal.

Caleb's curly locks were notty and very voluminous, so he needed a good brushing to make him servicable with the clippers. Sarah was pretty good about not pulling his hair with the brush, but Caleb was already emotinally finished by the time the clippers came into play. He cried a bit and squirmed a little as the volumes of black curls came off. They added some contrast to the existing carpet of blonde fluff. Caleb was pretty difficult to edge this time, both because of technical problems and because Caleb wouldn't sit still. At one point I had to essentially force him to look down so Sarah could reach his neck. At last, the final bit of hair fell, and he ran away with his fruit snacks.

We had put it off long enough. Molly was in serious need of some grooming. I sat down and brushed her out. A few weeks ago, when we bought the brush, she nipped and yelped when I brushed her, but now she's used to it. The clippers were another story. Over the following two and half hours Sarah sheared and clipped and buzzed and snipped while I found ever-creative ways to hold her still and keep Molly's frequently bared teeth from sinking into our soft-sensitive flesh. I felt like I needed the French announcer from Sponge Bob to say, "Six hours later..."

Except for the occasional tuft of exposed black hair, the only hair visible on the floor became molly's distinctive reddish poodle-hair. She should be happy: she can, like, see now. I'm happy; it's fairly expensive to have her groomed. I can see why, too.

The Swept Pile

But it's over. I'm glad. That was a wild and crazy 4 hours of my life.

Afterward, Sarah went out and got a body wave done. I'm glad she got to spend some time out getting pampered. I took two of the boys to Sam's Club to get some supplies for the week and then all three to Woodchicks for "Free-fries" and "Krabby Paddies." Now I just need get my mop chopped.

Deep thoughts

Caleb has learned to say, "I love you too," when we say "I love you." Sarah was praying with Caleb and was ending the prayer with "I love you, Jesus." Caleb said, "I love you too, Jesus."

Every morning I have been putting gloves on Caleb and Noah before we go outside to wait for the bus. Dawson always watches and cries when I take them outside. It was nicer out some this week, so Sarah took them outside to play. She put gloves on Dawson. He was very excited. I guess he felt more left out about not getting to wear gloves than going outside.

Speaking of the bus, we missed it one day this week. I had to drive them the horribly long trip to the end of the street to school. When I was dropping them off, Caleb pointed to Noah's class saying he needed to go with Noah. I thought he was trying to pull one over on me since I'm not usually there. His teacher, Miss Jones, told me he asks her the same thing every day. He loves Noah.

As a side note, normally Caleb waves to Miss Jones as she drive by in the morning while we're waiting for the bus. He actually just tends to waive at all red cars. When I brought them in after missing the bus she said, "Ha, you're finally later than me."

be sick.... or play drums...hmmmm???

My baby Noah has been so sick lately. He started on Saturday just acting not himself. By the evening he was running a fever but not a high one, just like 101 something; it began to get higher through most of Sunday.

However, He received a little drum set as an early birthday present, and they were set-up while he was sleeping Saturday night. To give you some background, about 8 months ago we were out to eat and Noah was just so fussy, and we couldn't figure out what he wanted. After a long while it was do or die. We needed to find out what he wanted, or, for everyone's sanity, we needed to leave. Finally we realized he wanted more straws, and he wanted his brothers cups. We watched to see what he was going to do with them. He set up everything just so and began to play drums. He spent the rest of the time there playing drums on cups with straws as drum sticks. He was so funny. We knew he always had a thing for drums, but now it was getting serious. He was more and more interested in watching the drummer at church, and every time we go out to eat he has to have his cups and straws.

We gave him David's old drum pad, and my parents bought him some sticks for Christmas. He now plays drums every Sunday morning on his drum pad. It doesn't make much noise when the music is going on. I think we have discovered one of the gifts and talents that God has given him, and we are excited to let him put it to practice in the house of God. There is NO better place to learn to flow in worship and perfect a gift given from the Father. The drummer at our church is so great; he always makes a point to say hi and let him go up after church and watch him pack all of his stuff up, and so on. Our Pastors are wonderful as well; they let him sit right on the edge of the platform and watch the drummer during worship and he plays his pad. It is a blessing to see him worship.

Back to the sick thing. There is a reason for all of the background info. He woke up Sunday morning with a fever. It was high enough to make him not want to do anything but lay in front of the TV. Dawson, our youngest, woke up a little bit after the two big boys and came into the playroom. The first thing he noticed was the drum set. Due to not feeling well, Noah hadn't noticed them yet, so, when Dawson went over and began to play the drums, Noah jumped up. He turned around and went running; he was so excited to see the drums. By this time it was 8:30 am and he began to play. I helped David get the other boys ready for church. I had already decided to stay home with Noah. David left around 9:45 and Noah was still playing. Finally at 10:30 ish his fever had gotten really high, and he was starting to not feel good at all. He came and sat next to me and took some Tylenol. By 11:20 the medicine had kicked in and he was right back to those drums, he played and played and played. I could tell around 1:30 he was getting pretty sick again but he wanted to keep going. I let him play a little longer and then I needed to be the Mom and get him to lie down since he needed his rest. He wasn't extremely happy about the decision, but sometimes moms do know better. He slept for maybe an hour and a half and as soon as he got up he was back on those drums. He ended up playing them until about 7 in the evening. I couldn't believe the energy he had and endurance he managed to have even through having the fever and all. It was really adorable to see him doing what he loves to do. He was singing songs while playing, and I believe he made most of them up or at least he didn't sing any I recognized.:)

That was a little about my weekend. I haven't been able to write much b/c I have been sick as well. I took Noah to the doctor Monday b/c his fever had spiked to 104, and I was getting concerned. They said it was just a virus and to treat the symptoms the best I can. That night when he got home his fever went as high as 105 and I have never had a kid with a fever that high. I was scared. I prayed and we forced him to take Tylenol. I couldn't get him to drink anything. I was wondering if I was gonna have to take him to the emergency room, but he finally fell asleep. I had never seen a kid that was delirious from a fever. It was like he was going in and out reality. How scary. All I kept thinking was, please Lord don't let it get any higher and don't let him have a seizure. He was shivering, and his eyes were rolling; it was not fun for any of us. I am just so thankful the Tylenol brought it down like a degree or so, so he was at least not in a dangerous place anymore. He was able to talk to me again and smile a little. The fever continued through most of this week. Finally, Thursday night the fever didn't spike and he seemed to be fine all day today. I am so glad God is faithful to watch over our children.

Noah did spend most of his time all week on the drums, sick or not:). We found a worship CD that he loves for me to put on so he can play the drums to it. It is so neat how he can pick up the different patterns and play along. We are gonna look into getting him some lessons next year. As for now, I guess the drums win over feeling terrible or anything else for that matter.:)

I will post some pictures of him playing as soon as he lets me take some:):)
